According to art. 140 GG in conjunction with art. 137 para. 5 WRV, "religious societies are to be granted, upon their application, the same rights as the old constituent bodies, if their constitution and the number of their members offer a guarantee of permanence."
The possibility for religious and ideological communities to obtain the status of K.d.ö.R. has improved significantly compared to the previous administrative practice due to the current supreme court decisions.
